Being a member of the Eau Gallie Marching Commodores will be one of the greatest experiences of your life. Membership in the marching band is a requirement of all band students, but more than that, it’s FUN! Band camp is the name of our summer program that prepares our band to be the best it can be. Many of you have little experience with marching band, and learning the steps and the music is a fun and rewarding experience.

When we plan the marching show, we assign everyone a place on the field. If you’re not at band camp, you will miss out on your placement and might spend most of the marching season on the sidelines as an alternate for the marching band.

It will be impossible to catch up learning the marching and maneuvering required for marching band if you are not at band camp. You and your parents should plan vacations around the week of band camp so you can have a spot in the show!

Mrs. Cortez will be present at band camp, on Wednesday nights and at selected Tuesday and Thursday night rehearsals. Mr. Thornton and Mr. & Mrs. Singletary will be at Tuesday and Thursday rehearsals and will be giving you instructions and will help you with the routines.

During the audition and training week and subsequent rehearsals, you will learn how to march and how to spin the flags and other equipment. No experience necessary! Mrs. Cortez is extremely qualified to lead you—she has lots of experience with color guard and will guide you through the process of becoming the best color guard our school has ever had! Mrs. Cortez is formerly the color guard instructor for the University of Southern Mississippi, the University of Central Florida, and 12 different high schools, all of whom received the highest possible ratings at band festivals.

Band is a physically demanding activity. Please prepare for rehearsals by eating well and taking care of yourself. Always bring water to practice and be prepared to work! In case you didn’t know, BAND IS A SPORT! The Eau Gallie Band is a group that has lots of fun through hard work, determination, and a desire to be the best!

Being at every practice is a must. Color Guard members who miss practice will not be tolerated and will lose their membership in the program without monetary refund. Excused absences from practice include excused absences from school. Any absence not excused by the school will not be excused by the band. Please read the attendance policy in the band handbook online at http://eaugallieband.org

If you have any questions about our program, please call Mr. Singletary or Ms. Curran in the band office at 242-6400, x335.
